Jess Walsh is a Yorkshire/Norfolk based artworker who works in partnership with the Earth.

Her connection to coal feels ancestral and instinctive, delving into deep time, mining heritage, and generational existence. The work subtly ties together strings of ideas to form a delicate web of imagery and legacy, honouring the ancestral past.
Her sculptural and oil pastel pieces point towards imitations of pink coal, retracing the embers of the fires that are lit using the earth. Rising from the ground, her bead and resin techniques enhance elements of fragility and rebirth to the topics that are often covered in dirt and mud.
